"Heart to Heart"

Self Esteem & Empathy Curriculum

  • Grade 6 - Diversity, Acceptance and Cyber Bullying

Through innovative lessons using fairy tale characters, the program challenges students to think of ways to be sensitive to all people. Facilitators use open ended discussion questions and scenarios to address cyber bullying. These lessons lay the foundation for acceptance, diversity and cyber bullying. Classroom teachers are provided with resources to follow up with these topics throughout the school year.

  • Grade 7 - Fears, Secrets and Internet Risk

Facilitators lead discussions with the students about situations which cause fear. The program provides students with tools to use when they encounter fearful situations. The subject of secrets is also addressed. The curriculum introduces Good and Bad secrets and also provides guidelines to determine when a secret should and should not be kept. The lesson on internet risks begins by assessing student's knowledge of the internet. Once their level is determined, the facilitators introduce scenarios to challenge the students ability to make safe choices when using the internet.

  • Grade 8 - Emotions

Facilitators assist students in the identification of positive and negative emotions and also the events that trigger them. Anger provides a main focus to teach young adults to process anger in a way that is appropriate and acceptable. Anger buttons are discussed. Through role play, the students are asked to identify their own anger styles. Facilitators offer healthy, non-aggressive ways to release stress and anger. This series includes a video presentation to reinforce positive ways to handle anger.
